Reviews Summary

Visitors consistently praise McLeod Lake for its stunning turquoise waters and breathtaking mountain scenery, calling the short hike incredibly rewarding. While many enjoy the accessibility for families and dogs, some note that the lake can become quite crowded, diminishing the peaceful atmosphere. The cold water is a common observation, but the overall beauty makes it a highly recommended stop in Mammoth Lakes. TikTokReddit

"It's a hike worth doing.

Total elevation gain is 347, pretty much from the trailhead to the lake. It's about 1.8 miles from trailhead up to the lake, loop around and head back down. Less than an hour if you keep up your pace and still get some photos in.

Once you get past all the dead trees (earthquake in 89 caused an underground reservoir of CO2 to leak to the surface killing tree roots) it starts to green up the closer you get to the lake. The lake is very picturesque and seems like the perfect place to relax during summer with nice flat places all around the lake."

Daniel Bow

"This place is stunning beautiful. I don’t have words to describe the amazing work of God. The hike is not bad at all it’s about 1 mile round trip. It’s a good little climb but definitely worth it. Water is really cold 🥶 but feels good to get your legs wet. If cold water is your thing then you’ll dive in no problem."

Diego Rodriguez

"This was the only hike we did in the Mammoth area and it was a great introduction to the terrain and climate. We got to the lake and back within 25 min."
