What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Mount Hopkins is praised for its stunning, underrated summit views and the incredibly scenic drive up. While the hike is moderate and rewarding, some visitors are disappointed by potential restrictions on accessing the Whipple Observatory at the very top. The drive itself is a major highlight, offering amazing vistas.
"Hopkins is an underrated peak. This peak is a fun climb with great views of Mt. Wrightson to the east, and the Catalinas to the north. On a clear day one can easily pick out prominent point, Kimball, and other familiar peaks in the Santa Catalinas. Observing the observatory is also a fun activity available on the summit. The climb up Hopkins from Agua Caliente is fun and he who takes this route can count on shade and freedom from excessive brush. North of Agua Caliente is Pete Mt., which is a mediocre peak. I can't say that I would recommend Pete Mt. in and of itself. Time might be spent more productively climbing other more interesting peaks. The best thing about Pete Mt. is the views it affords of mt. Hopkins."

"Moderate hike about 6.7 miles round trip. View at the top is worth it!"
Jeremiah Comer
"Do not waste your time. You can not reach the top of Mt. Hopkins because the Wipple Observatory is closed! Wish I knew this before we started up the mountain!】"
