Reviews Summary
Mount Livermore Baldy Peak is a highly rewarding, albeit strenuous, hike in West Texas, praised for its stunning summit views and challenging terrain. While access is limited to specific weekends and requires a capable vehicle, most visitors find the effort well worth it. Some reviewers noted issues with other visitors' behavior, but the natural beauty and sense of accomplishment are consistently highlighted.
"I have hiked 14ers in Colorado, Wheeler Peak in NM, the Inca Trail in Peru, Mount Sanai in Egypt, and many others. This was one of my favorite hikes. It’s got to be top 3 in Texas, and it’s one of the top 5 highest peaks in Texas. It’s on the Davis Mountain Preserve, which is only open about 4 weekends a year! This is such a beautiful area, and my family had a wonderful time. The staff at the Preserve were extremely kind, but some of the other visitors were not family friendly. Regardless, we had a blast and this hike was a highlight. It should definitely be on any hikers bucket list.
The hike was pretty long for a 7 mile. It took us 4.5, with a 9 year old boy in tow. The end is VERY steep, and I was worried about my boy, but he did great and wants to hike more mountains! The path is clearly marked and has stunning views. The pictures do nowhere near justice."

"Very strenuous hike. Loose rocks almost all the way and the final push to the summit is shear climbing up the rock. Two ways to go. One is longer by 1.2 miles, but less demanding. Conservatory open 4 times a year."

"Great hike, very steep grades, and loose rock at Baldy Peak. Recommend take the Limpia chute as it's not as steep. Be extra careful if older the loose rocks are bad. The peak is very steep and tough we thought this was tougher than Emory peak. Check website or call for open dates. Make sure to sign in and out get there early ask parking can get tight later in the day. You will definitely need a high clearance vehicle 4 wheel or AWD is necessary in my opinion. Check weather also before going."
