What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Linden Historic Home offers a charming stay in a beautiful circa-1790 Antebellum property, praised for its historical ambiance, comfortable rooms with good AC, and delicious Southern breakfasts. While some guests note areas needing maintenance and a less personal hospitality touch, many appreciate the unique historical experience and the family's efforts to preserve the home.
"We had a wonderful two evening stay at the Linden Historic Bed & Breakfast. During the daytime we explored the wonderful antebellum mansions in the area and the evenings at Linden. Our room was a large, high-ceilinged space decorated in antiques. It felt so relaxing and comforting, made better by a great A/C unit! We talked with the owner, the manager and the breakfast chef at length and they were all friendly and helpful with a passion for taking care of this magnificent property. Do not hesitate to stay a few days here!"

"Highly recommended. Staying at Linden House puts you in atmosphere of the times. Service was great and breakfasts were stupendous. During breakfast, met so many nice couples who were also staying at the Linden. Enjoyed sitting in rocking chairs on the back porch and having morning coffee before breakfast. If you want a great place to stay with fantastic staff, peace and quiet and great breakfast, stay at the Linden."

"First the positives: AC was cold, hot water was hot, mattress was comfortable, breakfast was very good. The house is historic and period decor is on point. But it seems like it lacks a loving host; it felt more like a managed property than a labor of love. That manifests itself in decent service in place of true southern hospitality, and in facilities that need attention. A few examples were weeds and clover in the lawn, missing and askew shutters, and a broken window pane in our room covered with cardboard and masking tape. Most of the house is kept closed and locked, which also takes away from the experience. I hope it gets the TLC it needs to restore its potential. It isn't bad, and I would not dissuade anyone from visiting. However, we will probably try another B&B the next time we visit Natchez.
I would also add that there is not always staff on site, and the only lock to our room was the combination code lock, no separate deadbolt for added security/privacy. While the property felt very safe, these might be concerns for older customers or ladies traveling alone."

For Different Travelers
Tailored advice for your travel style
👨👩👧 Families with Kids
While the complimentary Southern breakfast is a plus, families should consider if the dining style and atmosphere are suitable for younger children. It's also worth noting that some areas of the house may be kept closed, limiting exploration. For families seeking a more interactive or overtly 'kid-friendly' environment with dedicated activities, Linden might be more of a quiet, historical retreat. Confirming any specific family policies or amenities with the property beforehand is recommended.
💰 Budget Travelers
However, budget travelers should weigh the cost against the potential need for a car to explore the surrounding area, as public transport is limited. While the property offers comfort, the noted maintenance issues might mean it's not the most luxurious option, which could be a trade-off for a lower price point compared to some upscale hotels. If the focus is on historical immersion and a good breakfast, Linden can be a cost-effective choice.
couples seeking a romantic getaway
The property's historical significance adds a unique layer to a romantic escape. While some guests have noted a more managed feel, the inherent beauty and tranquility of the home can still foster a sense of connection and relaxation. Couples who appreciate history, quiet evenings, and a touch of old-world charm will likely find Linden Historic Home a delightful choice for a getaway.

The Charm of Antebellum Living
Guests often highlight the atmosphere of the times as a key draw. The rooms are described as large and decorated with antiques, creating a comforting and immersive environment. The presence of a good air conditioning unit is a modern comfort that enhances the stay, ensuring that the historical charm doesn't come at the expense of comfort. The complimentary Southern breakfast is frequently mentioned as a highlight, adding to the authentic experience.
However, it's important to note that some visitors have observed that the property, while beautiful, could benefit from more dedicated upkeep. Comments about weeds in the lawn, askew shutters, and even a broken window pane covered with cardboard suggest that while the house is maintained, it may lack the 'loving host' touch some B&Bs are known for. This can lead to a feeling of a 'managed property' rather than a deeply personal one. Despite these observations, the core historical experience and the comfort provided are generally well-received.
Guest Experience and Hospitality
Conversely, other reviews suggest a more detached experience, describing the service as 'decent' but lacking 'true southern hospitality.' The feeling of the house being 'more like a managed property than a labor of love' is a recurring sentiment for some. This can be amplified by parts of the house being kept closed and locked, which can detract from the feeling of full access and immersion. Additionally, the security of the rooms, relying solely on combination code locks without separate deadbolts, has been a point of concern for some travelers, particularly solo female travelers or older guests.
Despite these varying perspectives on hospitality, the core offerings of comfort (AC, hot water, comfortable beds) and a very good breakfast are consistently praised. The fact that the home is still owned by the family and that guests' stays help financially support its preservation is also a point of appreciation for many. Ultimately, the experience can depend on individual expectations and the specific interactions had during the stay.
