What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Guests often praise the beautiful, extensive gardens and the delicious Southern breakfast. The historic charm and attentive staff are frequently highlighted as positives. However, some visitors find the rooms to be a bit worn and lacking in modern amenities like in-room coffee, and the gravel driveway can be a concern for certain vehicles.
"We had an amazing stay there. The grounds are extensive and beautiful, you can spend quite a bit of time in the various paths. The staff were wonderful. We missed the main house tour after breakfast, and as we're were checking out the gentlemen offered to keep the house open and the we lights on for us so we could take a peek our own.
The southern breakfast was delicious.
The suites have vintage furniture and decor. We had a large patio with access to the gardens. If we lived nearby, we would make it a destination in itself from time to time."

"Very disappointing. The house itself is beautiful but our room was very shabby and not very clean. There were no coffee making facilities in the room or any bottles of water. The TV was in a corner with the view obscured by the bedpost. Towels were threadbare and frayed. Breakfast was not very good at all, with little choice. The only seating in the room was 2 upright dining room chairs, both of which had broken seats which sagged. There was only 1 very lumpy pillow each.
The grounds are pretty but need maintenance.
On the plus side the restaurant was excellent and our waiter, George was lovely.
Warning - the driveway is gravel with deep ruts so don't take a car with liw ground clearance. It would definitely get damaged."

"Let me say first, Natchez is a wonderful place to visit. You'll make friends everywhere you go. The general hospitality of the people and places is overwhelming.
Now for the Monmouth Historic Inn & Gardens. We stayed in one of the duplex chalets with a private front porch and rocking chairs. You'll read that the rooms are a bit worn, and they are, but it only adds to the charm of being historic. The room was large and comfortable. The grounds are gorgeous and well worth a stroll. The Inn is centrally located to everything you'll want to do in and around the city center.
The staff is excellent and attentive. We didn't eat at 1818 but we did enjoy the wonderful breakfast each morning of our stay.
So generally, this isn't a crisp new high end place, and if this is what you're expecting, don't stay here. But if you're looking for real Natchez hospitality and a comfortable stay with lots of nostalgia, amenities, and friendly service, this is for you.
...and the silly remarks about the gravel driveway, they are not pot holes, they are drainage ditches, and how fast do you plan on driving through a hotel parking lot anyway????"
