Yaquina Head Lighthouse in Oregon is just a fabulous and picturesque lighthouse! Below, down a huge staircase lies Cobble Beach. Its shore is one of the richest tidepool zones on the Oregon Coast! When I visited the tide was in so I missed out on the tidepools, so I will just need to go back! The last photo is the Yaquina Bay Bridge. “The Yaquina Head Light, also known early in its existence ...

This plein air painting was created on Cobble Beach at #yaquinaheadlighthouse over two days. I’ve enjoyed exploring the tide pools and meeting many cool sea creatures like the Giant Pacific Octopus (could you see it in the video?) and a few nudibranchs. Spending time exploring first helps me settle in to the area, then the painting spot seems to present itself! . This artwork was produced under th...

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the unique black cobblestone beach and the vibrant tidepools teeming with marine life, including rare sightings of Giant Pacific Octopuses. The picturesque Yaquina Head Lighthouse adds to the stunning scenery. However, the steep stairs and challenging terrain of the cobbles can be difficult for some, and the tidepools are not considered the absolute best in the area by all.

"One of the best tide pools along the Oregon coast. We went right as the tide was coming in. We saw crabs, anemones, purple sea urchins, muscles, huge starfish, and much more. As a bonus, there were seals about 10 yards away chilling on the rocks, as well of plenty of birds like pelicans. The staff were helpful in answering questions, we had a great time!

A few side notes, you are not all allowed to walk on the muscles, and you are allowed to touch the animals."

"The weather was awefull, but it was still great to visit Cobble Beach."

"Quite fun and unique beach! It's part of the Yaquina Head state area, so there is a $7 park entry fee. The tide pools were fun (but not the best in the area) even at a +2' low tide, and it feels like a pristine natural area. It isn't super huge, but we'll be back! About 6 flights of stairs down from the parking area, and the basalt cobbles are a bit challenging to walk on - they range in size from baseball to marble, averaging lemon size. Visited on a school day Monday, and there was a ranger available to chat with."
