Reviews Summary

North Captiva Island is lauded as a tranquil, car-free paradise perfect for relaxation and nature immersion, with stunning beaches and abundant wildlife. However, visitors should be prepared for limited dining and the need to bring most supplies from the mainland, especially post-hurricane.

"Decent place if you wanna vacation on a little island for piece and quiet. Nothing much to do, no where to go other than two small restaurants with bar style food (one is still down after the hurricane). Bring the food you want/need for the week in coolers. (accessible only by boat or a small plane). Not a good place to take teenagers that like to drink or cause trouble. The Sheriffs Office will make patrols during the night/day."

"TRANSPORTATION
I will be returning to North Captiva Island, Florida. In mid September, we flew into Southwest Florida International Airport in Ft Meyers, took a 30 min Pine Island taxi to North Captiva Island Club Welcome Center for ferry pick-up/drop-off, 20 minute ferry rides with Island Girl Charters ($35 pp) to North Captiva Mainstay, and quick golf cart ride to our home on the beach for the week.

COMMUNITY
On our rides to our rental property, we saw debris and constructions as communities were rebuilding from the 2022 category 5 hurricane Ian. Every local person we've met along the way in the taxi ride, Publix staff, ferry ride, and throughout the islands we're all humble and friendly and shared their stories and experiences of when hurricane Ian came through. Though we were worried that we're traveling there during hurricane season, we had beautiful sunny days with mild and quick sun showers.

BEACH
Daily, we've watched over the water and beach sunrises and sunsets with unobstructed views. Each view is stunning, breaktaking and none are the same twice. Along the shorelines, the calm waves washed up pretty seashells consistently, including some thst were never seen before like potato sea urchin. The island has a private airstrip called Salty Approach that the locals use for their private plans and helicopters. We saw one small propeller plane land once and a helicopter making multiple trips while we were on the beach.

WILDLIFE
During our stay, we saw many FL wildlife: osprey, pelicans, gulls, cranes, vultures, crows, doves, manatees, dolphins, turtles, sting rays, school of tiny fish, seahorse and many more. There were many varieties of plans from morning glories, succulents, bird if paradise, agave, boganvellia, palm trees, and so much more.

ACTIVITIES
The island has activities and pool for families and also rentals at the Island Club for kayaks, paddle boards, fat tires, boats, canoes, and other water sport accessories. The state Park is easy to walk and bike through with beach shorelines to stop and rest.

RESTAURANT
The only restaurant that was open during our stay was Mango's Cafe and Grill. Their hours were different from their regular hours due to the rebuilding of the staff and establishments. Call before going for lunch and dinner as hours have changed. As an alternative, we chartered to Cabbage Key Inn and Restaurant for a late lunch and watch the sunset. Gorgeous!

RECOMMENDATIONS
I highly recommend to make a trip to North Captiva Island before commerical builders and contractors change the naturally prestine and serene landscape of non-highrise island. Also recommend to stop at Publix and buy all your groceries for your island stay including frozen items to avoid multiple ferry ride fees and also because the mini-mart on north captive island is priced higher."

A Me

"This place is a little paradise! We got to see manatees, dolphins, turtles and a black-tip shark. The sunsets are gorgeous—plenty of beautiful shells everywhere. We are definitely coming back asap!"
