What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Fruitvale Bridge a fascinating historical landmark, particularly the silent railroad drawbridge with its impressive mechanics. While the vehicle bridge is a functional crossing, its sidewalks offer great views of the estuary and the old bridge. Some note that biking can be less enjoyable due to the bridge's design, and drawbridge operations can cause delays.
"Fascinating draw bridge from days gone by.
The kicker is it's silent."

"The fruitvail railroad bridge is a cool old bridge that can be raised up if there are passing boats/ships in the canal, tho the trains stopped running to alameda,.they have actually pulled up much of the tracks in alameda,so the railroad span of the bridge is in a semi permanent raised up position. It dose a low for great viewing of the Huge chain hoist that is used.and looks rather interesting suspended at that height. You can walk on both sides of the car bridge(located right next to the railroad bridge)as to get great vantage points to look or photograph the bridge.dont think there are many like this still around."

"This bridge is paved and much nicer compared to the Park Street Bridge that tends to get a little slippery when it rains. It is a draw bridge, so when the boats have to get through it can take a while to cross to the other side."
