What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Peavine Falls is a beautiful natural attraction, particularly stunning after rain, offering a rewarding hike for visitors. While the trail is often described as short, many find the final approach to be steep and rocky, requiring careful navigation. The scenic beauty and the opportunity for kids to play in the water make it a worthwhile destination, though vehicle choice for the access road and appropriate footwear are important considerations.
"Beautiful waterfall (after a recent rain). We went in April, it had rained two days before, and it wasn’t too hot. Great place for kids to play in the water or to take professional photos. There were more people than we expected but there was an event that day (MammothMarch).
You can drive most of the way (the road can be narrow). It’s about a half mile hike from the southern trailhead parking lot. You can use a baby stroller on the trail 90% of the way, but the last 10% is “adventurous”. We left the stroller and carried our 2yo the last 10% was steep.
Directions: When driving into the park, go 2 miles past the “welcome”/pay station. Take a right at the big brown sign. Go straight until it dead ends at “the southern trailhead”. The last third of the drive is on a narrow road. The parking lot is big and there is a park toilet building (big permanent port-o-potty). If you are in the parking lot looking at the trail, go left on foot. At the first “Y”(near the parking lot) take a right. At the benches, go right and DOWN.
If you LOVE Peavine Falls, I recommend visiting Jemez Falls in northern New Mexico. Check it out!"

"Says it is an easy hike, nope!
On our hike in we saw several grown men huffing and puffing and we know why now.
Not truly undoable but the falls are worth it.
Bring a walking stick to help negotiate the trails. You get to a spot at a split and we took the left trail going in. Quite steep in some areas and you have to crawl around some rocks. When we got to the falls we crossed the water and came up the other trail that I think would be the fastest route yet still steep.
All in all a nice waterfall drop of about 30 feet. Well worth the hike not only for the falls but to exercise as well."
