What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors find the Poopenaut Valley Overlook trail to be a steep but rewarding hike leading to a rugged, wildlife-rich valley. While the descent is quick, the ascent can be challenging, and the dense brush can make for a wet experience, especially in spring. The limited camping spots and potential for bugs are noted drawbacks, but the 'Jurassic Parkish' atmosphere and abundant nature make it a unique wilderness adventure for those prepared.
"I walked this trail 4/26/25. The trail is less than a mile down and steep. Took me 30 minutes to go down and 1.5 hours to go up. It was snowing when I started the hike and raining about 50 ft below the trailhead. The brush is so dense that by the time I walked the .75 miles I was thoroughly soaked. Good idea to do this hike in the spring when it is NOT snowing/raining 😂
Once on the river the the camping area is very limited with limited travel up and down the river. Rugged area but a bit Jurassic Parkish. Unreal wildlife with endless nature calls.
This is a good day hike or 1-2 night stay maximum, IMO."
