Freshwater lake, Oregon Dunes. Backpacking here is a slog but it's beautiful and the water is good.
I'm wanting to do my first backpacking trip here. Do you have any tips or suggestions?

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Eel Lake Trail offers a beautiful, well-maintained experience for the first two miles, praised for its lush forests and wildlife. However, the latter half of the trail is poorly maintained and hazardous, leading many to recommend turning back. Visitors enjoy the lake access and picnic facilities, but the anticlimactic end of the full trail is a common point of disappointment.
"Beautiful lake in State Park. Lots of parking and a boat launch and fishing pier.
Short, easy trail, with large second growth Spruce, Firs, Hemlocks and hardwoods. Good tread and several bridges over small wet areas. Nice sand beach accessible from trail.
Park has day use area with really well kept grounds, picnic tables and bathrooms."

"Trail head pretty obscure. Once in, it's a great, well maintained, trail... For awhile. After the 2 mile mark it gets very poorly maintained or not at all eventually.
Being optimistic and stubborn, I wanted to complete the entire 3.3 Mile trek and get my "Reward" at the end.
Expecting an overlook, view point, water access something. Instead the trail became full of entrapments, blow down, sinking mud and treacherous old decayed log "bridges" which are very hazardous. So much so, is recommend closing the last mile and just calling it a 2 mile trail.
Instead, after plowing through mud, climbing over downed logs and toiling over loose, rotten, bridge beams suspended precariously over springs etc. My big reward was a 5" end of trail sign in a small overgrown revine.
VERY anticlimactic!
Otherwise, it's an easy, comfortable, beautiful hike with many views of the lakes, plenty of mushrooms, foliage, fowl and plant species to entertain all.
NOTE to State of Oregon: or whom ever maintains this trail.
Maintenance is BADLY needed the last mile. It appears they just stopped after 2.5 mi and it's very dangerous and contrasting to the first beautiful and well maintained 2 miles."

"A beautiful Park and lake. A great place to kayak or boat or fish. The hiking trail gets boring and it says it's 3 miles but it continues to go at the three mile mark. I personally turned around at this point because the trail was a snooze fest. FYI After the 2 mile marker the trail gets pretty junky and poorly maintained but before that the trail is pristine."
