What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors love the iconic sunset views and the lively atmosphere of Ocean Beach, even with the pier's current closure. The boardwalk, nearby Dog Beach, and the general laid-back vibe are frequently praised. Some find the accessible part of the pier a bit 'gross' and note the presence of homeless individuals, though often described as pleasant.
"The pier is large and long, but you cannot walk down it and I don’t know why.
There are stairs, so you can walk up to it from the beach. I bet when the pier was open, it was really cool to walk out there.
So this left a lot for me to dream about as I sat on the beach, staring at the long pier and the only ones who were able to really enjoy it are the birds. What magic what it must’ve been like with families and kids and people on their first date walking out to the pier and enjoying the sunset, fishermen out there catching fish and being able to watch the surfers from above.
Maybe someday it will open back up? Until then, it’s nice to use your imagination as you sit below it."

"Ocean Beach is always a great destination to visit if you're from out of town. The pier is always a great place to go and visit. If you like people watching this, it is an excellent location for that. You can go out and watch the Surfers take on the big the big waves. Unfortunately, on this visit, the pier was closed due to some heavy storm activity that did some damage and was unsafe for public passage. There's plenty to see around Ocean Beach Pier. There's plenty of thrift shops, restaurants and activities to do around the pier. Not too far from the pier is dog beach if you have your Sidekick with you. Enjoy your day at the Ocean Beach pier. Cheers"
