Reviews Summary
TPC Scottsdale is widely praised for its pristine course conditions, challenging layouts, and world-class facilities, offering a memorable golfing experience. The staff consistently receives accolades for their professionalism and hospitality, making it a top destination for golfers. However, some visitors find the green fees to be on the higher side, particularly for the Stadium Course outside of tournament season.
"I had the opportunity to come out and play in a two day golf tournament at TPM Scottsdale just at the start of summer, and what an experience it turned out to be.
There are two courses, one that feels more desert style, and then the Champions course is a little bit more natural feeling. Together, they make a couple challenging tracks that will treat you fair if you can control your shot shapes.
The practice facilities were great. Grass hitting areas, big putting greens, pitching and chipping areas, and lots of space to work on your game.
From tees to green, you have these fun opportunities to go long and be rewarded with good approach shots. the Greens were fast and firm, but not unreasonable.
Overall, this turned out to be a bucket list course for me that I didn't even realize was on my list until I played it.
Though this is the home of the WM Open, the stadium course feels completely different without the big grandstands, but you can still feel the energy of the layout in the last few holes on the back nine. Big risk reward moments everywhere :)"

"We were in town for my son‘s baseball tournament and decided to sneak a round on his day off. My dad was in town for Father’s Day and it was an amazing round of golf and had cocktails and appetizers after the round in the clubhouse. What an incredible course and the staff was top-notch. I’m so glad we went."

"TPC Scottsdale is a golfer’s paradise! The course is absolutely pristine, with stunning desert landscapes, beautifully maintained fairways, and just the right level of challenge. Playing the iconic Stadium Course was a bucket-list experience—walking the same fairways as the pros during the Waste Management Phoenix Open was surreal. The staff was top-notch from start to finish—friendly, professional, and always ready to help. The clubhouse is gorgeous, and the food and drinks were excellent too. Whether you're a serious golfer or just want to enjoy a round in a world-class setting, TPC Scottsdale is a must-visit. Can’t wait to come back!"

The Stadium Course vs. The Champions Course
The Champions Course, designed by Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish (who also designed the Stadium Course), offers a different, yet equally compelling, desert golf experience. It tends to be more of a traditional desert-style course, with fairways winding through natural arroyos and cacti. While it might be perceived as slightly less intimidating than the Stadium Course, it still presents significant strategic challenges and demands accuracy off the tee. Many golfers find it to be a fantastic alternative for a challenging round without the premium price tag of the Stadium Course.
When choosing between the two, consider your priorities. If you're seeking the iconic tournament atmosphere and the thrill of playing the 16th hole, the Stadium Course is a must. If you're looking for a beautiful, challenging desert golf round that might be more forgiving on the wallet, the Champions Course is an excellent choice. Both offer a world-class golfing experience in the Scottsdale desert.
Experiencing the Waste Management Phoenix Open
During the tournament week, the 16th hole becomes 'The Coliseum,' a par-3 surrounded by temporary grandstands packed with enthusiastic fans. The energy is palpable, with cheers, jeers, and even streakers adding to the spectacle. Beyond the 16th, the Bird's Nest tented village offers live music, food, and drinks, creating a lively social hub.
Attending the WMPO offers a chance to see PGA Tour professionals compete on a course they know intimately, while also experiencing a unique cultural event. Tickets can range from free on Monday and Tuesday to $50-$75 for later rounds, with hospitality options available. It's an unforgettable experience for golf fans and party-goers alike.
Golfing in the Arizona Desert
Desert golf requires a different strategy than traditional parkland courses. Fairways can be generous, but errant shots can quickly find thorny hazards or tumble down arroyos. Greens are often fast and firm, demanding precise approach shots. The heat is also a significant factor; playing early in the morning or late in the afternoon is highly recommended to avoid the midday sun. Staying hydrated is paramount.
Despite the challenges, the beauty and uniqueness of desert golf make it a bucket-list item for many. The courses at TPC Scottsdale, with their immaculate conditioning and strategic layouts, exemplify the best of this golfing environment. It's an experience that combines athletic challenge with breathtaking natural scenery.
