I’m new to the area and I’m looking for some of the best BBQ joints in town
Best whole hog authentic bbq style near Charlotte?
I’ve seen so many posts on this sub asking about where to get the best bbq around, and the replies seem to lean towards recommending Texas style bbq places or Midwood smokehouse. I grew up here and I am craving a legit, old school, pork-focused joint/backyard/food…

Good, hole-in- the-wall BBQ
Hey all! I'm so excited to be moving to Charlotte in less than a week! Looking for good BBQ that's NOT a chain restaurant. (We had visited a couple BBQ places that were chains, and weren't impressed. Honestly, tho, chain restaurants just don't impress me anymore, anyway.) We…

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Red Bridges BBQ Lodge is celebrated for its authentic, pit-cooked Carolina BBQ and legendary hush puppies, offering generous portions at fair prices. While the food consistently earns high praise, some visitors note that service can be slow during peak hours. Despite occasional waits, the classic atmosphere and delicious, smoky flavors make it a beloved destination for locals and travelers alike.
"Red Bridges Barbecue Lodge is a true Carolina classic! The barbecue has that authentic, smoky flavor that keeps people coming back, and the hush puppies are always a favorite. The portions are generous and satisfying, and the prices are fair for the quality you get. The staff is friendly and welcoming, making the whole experience feel like a family tradition. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that it can get really busy, which sometimes means a bit of a wait—but honestly, that just shows how loved this place is. Definitely worth a stop if you’re anywhere near Shelby!"

"Good food. Chopped pork and chicken both excellent. Sides are good especially hush puppies. Portions are large. We had awful service. After taking our order and dropping off our food we didn’t see our server again. We waited almost 40 minutes for her to come back before we paid our bill up front (which is standard). We wanted a box and some dessert but got neither. It’s too bad because the older woman who waited on us seems to have been around a long time. Maybe she got to talking with some regulars and forgot we existed. It shouldn’t have happened.
Restaurant not busy. 6 or 7 tables total. Table of 4 behind my wife gig at least six visits from their server and got a box for leftovers. Never spoke to us either."

"This place is a step back in time. Remember the good old days when they used to leave the tea pitcher on the table. This is that kind of place. The barbecue was so tender and had a great smoked flavor. I'm not a fan of red slaw, but theirs was excellent. The staff was so friendly. All in all a great experience!"
