What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise Valle Grande for its breathtaking scenic drives and the awe-inspiring scale of its caldera. The opportunity to witness abundant wildlife, especially elk, is a major highlight. While some areas were impacted by past fires, the preserve remains a stunning natural wonder worth exploring, particularly with a backcountry pass for deeper immersion.
"You are greeted by a great view as you approach the park entrance. Get a back country pass to go further into the interior and see more views. Unfortunately there was a fire some years ago that devastated a significant area, but still worth the drive. We did a short hike but in my opinion this is more for driving. We saw two coyotes hunting with a badger, as well as a solo coyote, prairie dogs, numerous bluebirds."

"Excellent drive and views! We had a nice hike. Relatively new Federal Park area and still working things out, but very enjoyable to visit. Did not see any elk but tons of birds and other wildlife, including roadrunner and coyote. Loved how quiet and remote it was."

"This place is incredible! What a cool place to spend the day. Spend time and go slow. Definitely get the back country pass."
