Pretty short trip to Maui. Is ʻĪao Valley State Monument worth the time or money? Is it really small and only one trail? Can you spend a few hours there hiking and sight seeing? Should I just do free hikes near the coast instead?

What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise the breathtaking views of the iconic Iao Needle and the lush botanical gardens. The ease of access and cooler morning temperatures are also highlights. However, many note that the accessible trails are quite short, and some areas may be closed, leading to a brief overall visit for some.
"Overall the view is breath taking and amazing. We came here in the morning and bought the 1st time slot (07:00 - 08:30). Parking was super easy and because it was early in the morning, the temperature was much cooler and comfortable. The only downside about this place is the trails are way too short and a lot of areas were closed to the public. It took us about 25 minutes to walk the entire area that is open to the public. Un-usually small for a state park."

"Very cool to see and very easy to get to. Make sure you get a parking and entry pass ahead of time or on your way there. Parking is easy. Path way is easy. Lots of stairs to climb. You can se the needle from the parking lot you just get a better view from the lookout. Do it!!"

"Beautiful walk with stunning scenery! Just a heads-up—there’s no cell reception, so make sure to reserve ahead of time before heading up. Be sure to wear proper walking shoes, and bring swimwear if you’re thinking about taking a dip. Definitely worth the visit!"
