"A hidden oasis. After the long, bumpy dirt road through the harsh desert, I was skeptical about our destination, but arriving in the dark under a full moon was a surreal experience. Waking up to juxtaposition of unforgiving desert terrain and the green foliage lining the Colorado River was unbelievable.
The campground was nearly empty and a great experience. Hot showers, clean bathrooms, sites with plenty of shade. The host, Pete, and park staff, Orlando were great. We didn't see any burros despite seeing evidence of them everywhere.
Highly recommend this spot for anyone seeking a unique desert retreat!"

"Picacho state recreation area is a place me and my friends have been going to since the 1980s so it's very near and dear to our hearts it's not for everybody I recommend going in the winter because it gets extremely hot out there but it's about a 45 minute to an hour drive on a dirt road out of Yuma. But if you love nature this place is spectacular it's got great showers clean restrooms the rangers are awesome there are camp hosts there there is a group campsite there that you need to reserve everything else is first come first serve basis you can access the Colorado River and it's just a great place to camp The sites are incredible early in the morning and late in the evening right before dusk. I highly recommend this place if you are going to go drive slowly on the dirt road your first time until you get used to it it is very accessible just go slow, no need to rush."

"Went there today, 02/03/23. Nobody there. Drove a 2005 Chevy Malibu the 40miles or more of dirt road. Excellently maintained! It’s beautiful there. Didn’t see any critters at all. Only people we saw were Rangers. Was hoping to see a burro or two. Brought a picnic lunch and enjoyed the awesome view. Bathrooms are available and very clean. Paid our $10 day use fee gladly. Perfect place for camping and fishing. Have a sweet ghost photo in the daytime from here! We will come again!"
