However, some have experienced unexpected closures, so checking hours is advised.

"Allah Kuli Khan Caravansarai.

Caravanserais were filled throughout the Silk Road at strategic locations and proved vital trading posts for the buying and selling of goods. They were often places of constant bustle and excitement. The Caravanseray Alla-Kuli-khan was one of them in Khiva.

Due to the development of trade relations with Bukhara, Iran, and especially with Russia in 1833, Alla Kuli Khan started in Ichan Kala construction of the caravanserai, to receive caravans arriving from foreign countries through its two gates. The main open-air square in the middle gave access to camel caravans laden with silks and spices, where traders bartered over everything from Singer sewing machines and huge bales of cotton to Khorezm melons and Turkoman carpets. Here, it was possible to buy not only the local goods, but also the Russian or English fabrics, silk shawls, Bukhara boots, utensils from China, etc.

Caravan-serai Alla-Kuli-khan on architecture is rather like a typical madrasah and has 105 rooms (similar to hujras = student cells). The central pass is connected directly to a courtyard. Around a courtyard are placed on two floors khudjr: the bottom is intended for the storage of goods, the top for habitation. It is the unique saved caravan-serai of Khoresm."
