BC Place
About
BC Place is a retractable-roof dome seating ~54,500, delivering an electric, loud atmosphere for big events. Expect vibrant concourses, strong sightlines, and a lively downtown setting. The 2026 World Cup will amplify the energy with international fan zones and upgraded broadcast infrastructure throughout the venue.
History
Opened in 1983 as BC Place, it hosted the 1986 Expo, 2010 Winter Olympics ceremonies, and 2015 FIFA Women's World Cup Final. A major 2011 renovation replaced the original air-supported roof with a retractable cable-supported structure, modernising the facility significantly.
Getting there
Pacific Boulevard and Beatty Street are primary approach routes. On-site parking is extremely limited; nearby Impark and Indigo lots fill fast. Expect gridlock post-match. False Creek area roads close partially on event days — budget 60+ minutes for exit.
Uber and Lyft designated drop-off is on Beatty Street near Gate A. Post-match surges are significant — fares can triple. Pre-scheduling a return pickup or walking to Yaletown before requesting a ride reduces wait times considerably.
SkyTrain Stadium–Chinatown Station (Expo and Millennium Lines) sits directly outside — a 2-minute walk to Gate A. Trains run frequently from Waterfront, Commercial–Broadway, and Surrey Central. Bus routes 15 and 17 also serve nearby Granville Street. Strongly recommended over driving.
Where to stay
Downtown Vancouver and Yaletown are the prime bases — walkable to the stadium, packed with hotels like the Marriott Pinnacle and Douglas Hotel. Gastown and Granville Street corridors offer boutique options. Expect premium World Cup pricing; book months ahead. Surrey and Burnaby offer budget alternatives via SkyTrain.
