~ Emma Gorge, El Questro WA ~ 2 hour rocky scramble with some stretch’s of flat surfaces and short steep climbs to the bottom of the falls. This hike was mostly in the sun so we picked a morning start. The 65m face was stunning, to the right of the falls hot spring water fell from the top while the main falls was quite chilly. We stumbled across a small hot springs bath, big enough for 1 toddle...

Reviews Summary

El Questro Gorge is a highly rewarding but challenging hike, praised for its stunning scenery and refreshing swimming holes. Visitors love the sense of adventure and accomplishment, though some find the undeveloped trail and difficult scrambling sections demanding. It's a must-do for those seeking an active experience in the Kimberley.

"Funny story, I accidentally did the whole hike as we reached the first waterhole fairly quickly and I didn’t realize we had completed it - there’s a sign at the entrance but not in the diff sections 🤦‍♀️I probably wouldn’t have attempted the second section had I realised, it was quite difficult getting over that big boulder in the first pool and then it got progressively harder. Not harder physically although there is a lot of climbing over rocks, more mentally as I am scared of heights. One section you are climbing a rock face with just your bare hands and a narrow ledge.

I was happy I accomplished it - it took us 2.5 hours return (not the 4 hours on the sign)We went at 7am (very shady) and didn’t see anyone until the way back.

Wear decent shoes that can go in water and have good grip. If you struggle with balance, you will find this hike difficult.

There is a deep water crossing into the gorge - it was only at .5 in June. Parking was limited, get there early."

Audrey

"El Questro Gorge offers a challenging adventure for thrill-seekers. The 1-meter deep water crossing demands a well-equipped car, setting the tone for a tough hike with numerous tricky sections. The six-hour round trip is not for the faint of heart, but the sense of accomplishment at completing the entire hike is undeniable. The waterfall at the end provides a picturesque reward, though timing is crucial – starting earlier in the day would have mitigated the real danger of walking back in the dark. Despite a bit of trauma, the pride in overcoming the challenges lingers, making it a memorable and exhilarating experience."

Amy Elizabeth

"A beautiful gorge but it is a difficult rock scramble in places. The trail is completely undeveloped and even the trail markers can be difficult to locate in places. It's a shame they don't put a bit more effort into developing the trail some more."
