Two hikes close to Brisbane. 1. Hiking up Mt Ngungun to watch the sunset is 2.8kms, rated as easy at the Glasshouse mountains range. 2. Hiking Gheerulla Falls at Mapelton is 2.8kms rated as easy. Heads up both don’t have toilets as if you have to toilet, clean up after yourself, just saying. We shouldn’t have to say this but you continue to see evidence lying around. 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗧𝗶𝗽 Carry a ...

Gheerulla falls, only 10 minutes from Mapleton township… We had this place to ourselves too! This is a 4km ( in and out, easy graded) hike from the gate. It’s worth taking a change of shoes and socks, seeing the mud is unavoidable when it’s been raining beforehand. #chasingwaterfalls #gheerullafalls #sunshinecoasthinterland #hiking #qldnationalparks #rainforest #mapleton #somuchfun #happyplace...

Reviews Summary

Gheerulla Falls is a cherished hidden gem, praised for its peaceful atmosphere and refreshing swimming hole, making it a worthwhile hike. While some find the uphill return challenging and the falls can be a trickle in dry spells, its secluded beauty and natural charm make it a popular choice for a quiet escape. InstagramReddit

"A nice, easy walk to the falls. Downhill to the falls and uphill back to the car park. Was a trickle when we went but still very nice. It was fun climbing the rocks at the falls as well."

Matt Routley

"Little unknown but beautiful waterfall tucked away. It’s a good length of gravel road before you get to the trailhead. You will see a parking nook thst can fit about 10 cars at the entrance. It goes downhill steadily for about 1-2km, which is nice and easy when you’re going in but not when you’re heading back out uphill. The falls were quite big though so that was awesome. The path is shaded from the sun by the trees which makes it colder in winter (maybe good in summer). Lots of trees all around so it’s quite a monotonous walk until you arrive at the waterfalls. The last stretch to the waterfall is narrower and rockier, but not too challenging."

Clare Sim

"Gheerulla Falls is an absolute hidden gem! Nestled in the Sunshine Coast hinterland, it’s a peaceful and refreshing spot that’s well worth the hike. The falls themselves are beautiful especially after some rain and the surrounding rock pools and forest make it feel like your own private oasis.

The walk in is scenic and not too difficult, with plenty of birdlife and natural beauty along the way. It’s a perfect place to take a break, have a swim, or just soak in the tranquility of nature.

Highly recommended for hikers, nature lovers, or anyone looking for a quiet escape. Just be sure to bring water and take your rubbish with you let’s keep it pristine!"
