What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors consistently praise San Tadeo Birding Garden for its incredible abundance and variety of birds, especially the up-close hummingbird encounters. The stunning Mindo valley views and welcoming atmosphere are also frequently highlighted as major positives. Some minor notes mention the need for pathway maintenance, but this doesn't detract from the overall exceptional experience.
"We went to the San Tadeo Birding site on a Monday as part of a Mindo Cloud Forrest tour. It was excellent, there were hundred's of Humming birds using feeders and using a bottle top with sugar water in you hand. The extended patio has a wonderful view of the Mindo valley. Maria the owner was great and there wasn't any netting to keep the birds contained. We were the only people there in the late afternoon. Cost is $5 per person."

"Maria was very welcoming and we saw a lot of different tanagers, hummingbirds and more. There is a stunning view of Mindo as well. Whether spending a few minutes as a casual traveler or a few hours as a serious birder, it's worth a stop."

"5 Stars for the sheer number & large variety of birds we saw in two hours, even in the rain. There are two areas for viewing birds, two covered areas in case of rain & the vista was gorgeous when the clouds parted. Don't worry if the only time you can go is in the rain, it's still worth the trip.
Go early in the morning or later in the day, we were told that the birds take a siesta, mid day. We arrived at 3pm & left at 5pm. Two hours was a good amount of time.
This is an excellent spot to take photos with your phone, small camera or with a tripod & large lens. I just used my phone & the photos I've attached do not capture the magnitude of my experience. The birding was up close up & personal!
Tip...review your Mindo & cloud forest birds before you arrive because they are so numerous that it's hard to keep up. Bring your binoculars as the birds are spectacular. We saw at least ten different species in the first half hour, it was breathtaking.
The taxi from Mindo was very affordable & reliable, we prearranged our entrance tickets & cab through one of the tour operators on the main street in Mindo, she were very kind. I don't believe we paid anything extra for that & it was nice to have the tickets in hand & the taxi arranged by a local.
My only negative comment, & it in no way affected our birding, would be that the cement pathways need pressure washing & the vegetation along the paths needs cutting back. However, this is a cloud forest, plants & moss grow 365 days of the year. I know it's hard to keep up & I believe there are very few staff members."
