"Just got back from a quick two-day getaway and it totally blew my mind! 🌿 The place is unbelievably beautiful, the staff were super friendly, and the service was spot on. I even had a “relaxation massage” with a lovely lady named Cruz—and it was absolutely amazing!"

"Very nice Hot Springs in Andes Mountains at an altitude of 11000 feet. It is a short 1 and 1/2 hour drive from Quito and a 45-minute drive from Quito airport. It is on the way from Quito to Amazon rainforest. Make sure to arrange for your return trip from Hot springs to Quito before you arrive there. They're at Hot springs outside every cabin. For a better experience with excellent service, for a fee, you can use the spa, take a steam bath, and a body massage. There's also a restaurant where you can relax."

"Nice hot springs. Stopped on a Saturday and it was 48°F out so the place wasn't busy. The main pools are nice and hot while the smaller pools were either boiling or cold. Get a locker for your stuff. There are private showers and changing rooms. There is a small cafeteria that serves burgers but stay away from the salchipapas as here they are literally French fries with a hot dog on top."

Pack extra towels and snacks, and be mindful of the altitude's effects on children.

Exploring Papallacta's Thermal Waters
Beyond the main resort, travelers have discovered smaller, potentially more affordable hot spring options. These can offer a more intimate experience, sometimes with fewer amenities but the same therapeutic waters. It's worth researching these alternatives if you're looking for a less commercialized visit or trying to manage costs.
When visiting, remember that the water can be quite hot, so ease into it and stay hydrated. The mineral content is said to have numerous health benefits, from muscle relaxation to skin rejuvenation, making it a truly restorative experience. The combination of the warm water and the crisp mountain air is incredibly invigorating.
Planning Your Papallacta Day Trip
Consider visiting on a weekday to avoid the weekend crowds and potentially find better rates. While tours are convenient, they can be more expensive. Exploring independent transport options or looking for newer, less-advertised hot spring spots might be a way to enjoy Papallacta on a tighter budget.
Remember to pack essentials like swimwear, a towel, and comfortable clothing suitable for varying mountain temperatures. The altitude can affect some people, so taking it easy and staying hydrated is key to enjoying your day trip to the fullest.
Accommodation and Private Experiences
These private spas offer a chance to relax at your own pace, away from the main crowds. Reviews often highlight the 'magical' and 'rustic' charm of these private settings. If you're looking for a special occasion or simply want to indulge, booking a cabin with a private hot spring is highly recommended.
Even if you're not staying overnight, some resorts offer access to private spa services, including massages and steam baths, for an additional fee. This provides a luxurious way to enhance your visit to the Papallacta thermal springs.
