What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Lake Baratz is praised for its unique status as Sardinia's only natural lake and its enchanting legends. Visitors appreciate the biodiversity and the peaceful atmosphere of the pine forest. However, some find the area less maintained than expected, with issues like litter, poor signage, and the presence of horse manure impacting the overall experience.
"Quite a delusion. Almost a swamp, with mosquitoes."
Rinaldo Rui
""Lake Baratz" is an enchanting and mysterious place, shrouded in legend by the ancient city of Barax, which sank beneath the waters as divine punishment for the sinful lives of its inhabitants. It is said that a traveler, actually a God in disguise, warned a young woman to flee with her children without ever looking back. The woman disobeyed and was turned to stone, while the city disappeared beneath the lake. Even today, on full moon nights, some swear they can hear the distant sound of bells and desperate cries coming from the bottom. Rich in biodiversity and natural beauty, it is the only natural lake in Sardinia, but unfortunately the area needs more care: too much garbage, poor signage, and the main walkway closed and in disrepair. A gem that deserves more attention, especially since parking nearby is not easy to find for those unfamiliar with the area. 🌿💧🦆✨"

Easily accessible and featuring a large parking lot, paths branch off to the lake.
A large pine forest offers shade from the sun and the music of the birds that nestle there."
