Fudo-do is located in Danjo Garan, Koyasan, Koya-machi, Ito-gun, Wakayama Prefecture. From Gokurakubashi Station on the Nankai Koya Line, take the cable car to Koyasan Station, then take the Nankai Rinkan Bus and get off at the Kondo-mae bus stop, about a 5-minute walk. If you are coming by car, there are several free parking lots in the surrounding area, including the Nakamon-mae parking lot and the Reihokan-mae parking lot.

Fudo-do Hall is said to have been built at the request of Hachijo Nyoin, the princess of Emperor Toba. It was originally located within the precincts of Isshin-in Temple, but in 1908 it was moved to the current Danjo Garan. The building has an elegant appearance reminiscent of the Shinden-zukuri style of the Heian period, and is attracting attention architecturally as well, with different shapes of buildings and roofs seen from all sides. It was designated as a National Treasure (old) in 1899, and its value is still recognized today.

According to legend, this hall was built by the monk Gyosho in 1197 at the request of Emperor Toba's Empress. It is a Japanese-style building from the Kamakura period, and the style of residential architecture from before that was applied to Buddhist hall architecture. The exact date of construction is unknown, but the shape of the balustrade on the Buddhist altar and the latticework on the paneling suggests that it was built in the late Kamakura period.
The Buddhist altar is located behind the sanctuary, and wooden walls are attached between the raigobashira pillars. The gently sloping roof is a type of ekawatake, and it retains the appearance of a shinden-zukuri style of architecture from the Heian period."
