What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors rave about Ashikuraji, calling it a 'stairway to heaven' and the highlight of the Alpine Route. The surreal boardwalk and breathtaking mountain views, often above the clouds, are consistently praised. Some note that it's less crowded than other stops, offering a more peaceful experience. However, weather can significantly impact the views, and some visitors regret not having enough time to explore the longer boardwalk course.
"One of the stop from 立山馳 station which is about 30 minutes bus ride!
There are two hotels right here. Because it is at 1930 meter elevation, so both hotels serve alcohol. Both hotels are very nice also.
There is a wooden walkway you can walk around during the summer months. But it was covered by snow when we visited in mid-May!
This station is surrounded by mountain and most of the time is above the cloud line. Great photo opportunity location!"

"This place is well worth a stop! Roughly 30mins from the lower station and 20 minutes from Murobe. It is even more wonderful if not too cloudy as you will have great views of the mountains. In my opinion, this is better than the walk around Murobe as it doesn't seem like most of the crowd is interested in making a stop here. Taking the longer route rather than the shorter one is recommended if you have around 1.5h to 2h until the next bus (you will be asked to reserve your next bus slot when you disembark here)."

"The place is surreal! It’s indeed stairway to heaven. I love it and I cried when I left. #1 most beautiful place in Japan for me. I took the 45m course (the short one) due to the time constraints but 100% will come back. This is the highlight of the alpine route!"
