What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Amedaki Falls is praised for its powerful cascade and refreshing natural ambiance, offering a relaxing experience with the sound of flowing water. While the main path is easy, further trails are steep and require good shoes. Some visitors note the long drive and seasonal limitations of facilities, but the beauty of the falls is undeniable.
"Amedaki is the first waterfall you'll see after a short walk from the main carpark and down some easy stairs.
There is a hutt near the carpark which looks like it might be an information centre/shop, with a drink vending machine outside. We went in March - and both the shop and vending machine still had signs saying they were closed for winter.
There were toilets, but they were closed too. I'm not sure if that was a seasonal thing or just because we came after 5pm.
There is a track from Amedaki which will take you on to several further waterfalls. It is less than a kilometer but precarious and steep in places so you'll want good shoes. Signs say the mountain range that contains Amedaki falls are home to eagles, Black Bears, and Japanese monkeys.
We went in early spring, and there were still some snowpiles, so bring something warm unless you go in summer."
