St. Anne’s Shrine in Lake Wales was built in the 1920s by French Canadian Catholics as a place of worship and pilgrimage. Though no longer as active, remnants of the site can still be found today. #StAnnesShrine #LakeWalesHistory #FloridaHistory #HainesandHaven

Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about Arbuckle Creek Paddling Trail for its magical, wild beauty and the abundance of unique scrub habitat teeming with wildlife. It's praised as a truly natural Florida experience, offering peace and solitude. However, the lack of amenities means visitors must be self-sufficient and prepared for the heat and challenging sandy trails.

"A magical place replete with beauty. Tons of endangered plants and animals thrive in well-maintained scrub and flatwoods habitat. The property is vast and feels deeply wild. With that said, be prepared to fend for yourself. There are basically no amenities although there are plenty of designated areas for things like camping, horseback riding, picnicking, and hunting. There are also extensive trails throughout that branch off the main road. Be prepared, though! Scrub habitat is as brutal as it is beautiful & strange. You may be the only people around for quite some distance and the heat and sun can be brutal."

"This is a fantastic place to hike in an area that’s about as natural as it gets in modern Florida. Lovely mostly shaded trail through mature scrub along a bluff overlooking Reedy creek. Suitable for off road biking as well. Lovely primitive camp sites are available along the miles of trails. Trails go through scrub, native slash pines and oak hammocks. Nice small county park/campground nearby on the north end of Lake Arbuckle at the east end of Arbuckle Road. I’ve canoed to the creek from the campground and walked upstream when it was too shallow to canoe in and it’s beautiful walking in there in a couple inches of cool water. The parking area is on School Bas road where Rucks Dairy Road splits off to the right. There is also a basic camping area very near here on Rucks Dairy Rd with a covered picnic pavilion and two port-o-lets. Check out Lake Godwin to the southeast off School Bus Road. I’ve been hiking in these trails every day of the week mostly in the cooler months and I’ve never seen more than a couple of people there. It’s free, no lines, bring water, study the map or take a photo of it with your phone before going out in the woods for safety."
