Reviews Summary

Visitors rave about the unique hiking experience at Tsankawi, highlighting the fascinating cavates, petroglyphs, and the tangible connection to Ancestral Puebloan history. The trail's challenging yet rewarding nature, with its ladders and dramatic views, is a frequent point of praise. Some note the trail's suitability for those with mobility concerns due to ladders and drop-offs, and the impact of past vandalism on the main village site.

"I loved this hike and area! There were so many beautiful plants, views, petroglyphs, and signs of human use from the tuff erosion. Loved seeing both sides of the valleys, the former foundation of a native dwelling, little caves, the fun ladders or rocks to climb up on, and the preservation of the area. I’d do this hike again and again. I am still recovering from a broken leg/ankle, many months out, so wearing an ankle brace and using a hiking stick was helpful. It can be close to edges of little and large cliffs, somewhat rocky, and mindful of steps for anyone with ankle issues. Using the downloaded trail helps with the markers along the way and makes it fun to learn at each number!"

Amanda Darquea

"Amazing to see the wear patterns in the rock over the hundreds and hundreds of years of human traffic. Fine views of the canyons on both sides. Multiple pueblo rooms are accessible along the hike. There are ladders and some lengths of trail right along sheer drop offs so be mindful of individual tolerance for such things."

Robert RD1

"My kids loved it so much. They said it's such a cool hike seeing the site and the caves and petroglyphs.too bad the main site was vandalized so the path no longer goes through it! We did see a few broken pieces of pottery"
