What Travellers Say
Reviews Summary
Visitors praise the Filson Historical Society as an amazing place with awesome experiences, highlighting its unique insights into Louisville's past and its beautiful spaces. The staff is noted for being amazing and helpful, contributing to a positive visit. Some visitors recall visiting years ago and appreciate the personalized, less commercialized feel.
"What an amazing place and AWESOME experience! Hearing historical accounts from pillars in the community sharing their personal relocations and memories of Black Gospel music in Louisville, its relevance and importance and its connection to the 60’s Freedom struggle and movement. There is a 200 page book and four digitally remastered compact discs of music that shaped almost every aspect of life for all people in Jefferson County, the country and the world! It could have only been made better by a question and answer or sharing period with the panelists and audience together. Hopefully, the program will become an annual date on the calendar so that oral history will continue to be shared, maintained and preserved. It was “Good music for bad times”!"

"I visited over 15 years ago, and I don't recall this location. Otherwise I would have taken a ton of pictures of this place.
I did get to see an exhibit of Lewis and Clark, at a downtown location that I recall being not far from the Slugger Museum.
In my experience, Historical Society's offer a more personalized and unique historical focus, with less popularity or commercialization. And it's pretty cool to not feel rushed, or lose focus by having school groups around.
