"Amazing time! aprox 2hrs going up and 40min under hail going down. Weather forecast didnt promise even a cloud but its okay adrenaline rush was fun! My friends and I finally got to breathe some fresh air and yea, my suggestion is just dont forget to dress up well, I almost went in a shirt and shorts. $12 for parking, grab snacks but dont liter, its beautiful landscapes especially during summer."

"I have been hiking in South Lake Tahoe many times; however, this was my first time attempting Granite Lake and Maggie’s Peak on November/ 21/2021.
The trail itself is about 5 miles out and back with 1,800 ft of elevation gain.
It starts at the end of the Bayview Campground, where there are a couple of informational areas covering facts about entering the Desolation Wilderness.
The trailhead is across from the Emerald Bay Overlook. It is free to use with a basic restroom.
This was a challenging hike for me with a consistent, steady climb despite the short distance, and 65% of the trail was covered with a lot of icy snow and rocks.
I had a stunning view of Emerald Bay in the first quarter of the hiking up.
Granite Lake to Maggie’s Peak was the second quarter; it had a ton of switchbacks, very steep, with lots of snow , ice and wet ground.
There was something magical about the vegetation in this section that made me feel like it could be in a fairy-tale story. The large trees provided open space, while the boulders were dotted with snow on top, as well as on the low bushes, and all this added greenery, made for the most super pretty landscape.
All of these surroundings and increasing views helped distract me from the switchbacks and the effort of the climb up to the peak.
WOW… there were such views at the peak, there weren't that many people around, made It so peaceful, and very relaxing.
Lake Tahoe ,Granite Lake, Cascade Lake, Emerald Bay, and a part of Fallen Leaf Lake were all visible to my eyes, even from a distance, the mixed of white clouds, color of the blue sky made the picturesque so phenomenal.
I actually fell in love with this peak.
The low point of my trip was I didn’t have MICRO SPIKES. I fell at least 5 times, hurting both my butt and back after falling so many times since it was so very slippery.
I even had the thought that I wouldn't make it down alive, but here I am writing this review. So don’t feel bad if you’re going too slow — others are probably struggling, too.
Wear good hiking shoes, snow spikes, also bring trekking poles as well as water and snacks, and be sure to check the weather as it made for a semi-frightening, but well be worthwhile adventure for me.
Happy travels!!!"
