Axel Witsel

Axel Witsel has had one of Belgian football's most travelled careers — Standard Liège, Benfica, Zenit, Borussia Dortmund, and now Girona — accumulating experience across leagues that few of his generation can match. At Dortmund he was a composed, positionally disciplined midfielder who helped stabilise the team after a period of turbulence. Now 37 and at Girona, he has shifted into a deeper, more limited role, but his reading of the game and leadership remain assets.
