Patrick Wimmer

Patrick Wimmer is a direct, left-footed wide midfielder who has established himself in the Bundesliga with VfL Wolfsburg after a breakthrough loan at Arminia Bielefeld. He is at his best running at defenders in transition, using pace and close control to create chances from wide areas. For Austria he offers width and an ability to unsettle defensive lines, fitting naturally into Rangnick's high-tempo system. At 25 he is still developing his consistency at the top level, but his directness gives Austria a different attacking dimension from the more possession-oriented midfielders around him.
