Unai Simón

Unai Simón has been Athletic Club's first-choice goalkeeper for the better part of a decade, embodying the Basque club's unique Basque-only recruitment policy while establishing himself as one of Spain's most reliable shot-stoppers. An excellent sweeper-keeper comfortable with the ball at his feet, he fits naturally into Spain's possession-based system. His Euro 2020 was defined by an infamous own goal against Croatia, but he responded with maturity and remained Spain's number one through their Euro 2024 triumph. His distribution and command of the penalty area make him integral to how Spain build from the back under Luis de la Fuente.
